First Cake Competition!

What's baking?  First time entering a cake competition! Cake entry at the National Capital Area Cake Show was fondant covered cake with gum paste flowers and royal icing piped panels. Very happy to receive positive feedback and third place in divisional category!

Citizens Bank Park Cake!

What's baking?  Cake for a Bar Mitzvah reception at Citizens Bank Park! Fun to abstract the stadium into edibles and share in the celebration! A few photos showing the process. Yellow cake, chocolate hazelnut filling, vanilla icing, gum paste and fondant decorations.

 

SUPER BOWL!!!

What's baking? I carved this football cake using Perfect Pound Cake recipe from Rose Barenbaum's The Cake Bible.  It's filled with Nutella buttercream and covered with chocolate fondant.

CRICUT CAKE MACHINE!

What's baking?  There was an online offer on black Friday that was too good to pass up- a great price on the Cricut Cake Machine including free shipping.  I finally took it our of the box and started playing!  Cookies are chocolate mocha and cake is Double Chocolate Layer Cake based on recipe on Epicurious with a white chocolate ganache and bananas foster filling.

This Cake Decorating Party was so much fun!  I provided everything!  We started out with a short demonstration on a few techniques.  Everyone learned a little about decorating cakes and then was able to try on their own.  Each guest took home their own decorated mini-cake in a box!
