Birthday Cake

What's Baking?






I made this cake for a brunch today for 35 people to celebrate an 85th birthday.  The bottom cake is vanilla with chocolate ganache filling and the top is chocolate chip cake with ganache.  It is covered with fondant and the writing is done in white chocolate.  The cut outs and decorations represent his enthusiasm for sailing and RVing and his profession as a pharmacist.  Hope he and his family are having a wonderful day and celebration!

This cake included a few more firsts!  First time making my own fondant, coloring it and covering a stacked cake with it.  The fondant is much softer than Wilton, but much better tasting.  Cake, filling, icing and fondant add up and this cake ended up weighing over 10 pounds!
